Out Now: 2027 National Competition Calendar, Qualifying Totals

COLORADO SPRINGS—USA Weightlifting today announced the full 2027 national competition calendar along with the 2027 national event qualifying totals. The year begins in Columbus with Virus Weightlifting Series 1 & The USA Weightlifting National Championships at Virus Weightlifting Series 1 in March, and concludes with the Virus Weightlifting Finals alongside the UMWF World Championships in San Juan, Puerto Rico in December. The Masters National Championships and University National Championships will once again run simultaneously and take place in Richmond, Virginia, followed by the Youth, Junior and U25 National Championships (June) in Colorado Springs. Virus Weightlifting Series 2 remains in Fort Worth, Texas and will take place in September.

Note: USAW is convening a task force to discuss adaptive athlete QTs moving forward. For now, adaptive athlete QTs are 50% of the national QT.


2027 USA Weightlifting Competitions:

  • March 4-7, Columbus, Ohio | Virus Weightlifting Series 1 & The USA Weightlifting National Championships at Virus Weightlifting Series 1
  • April 15-18, Richmond, Virginia | Masters and University National Championships
  • June 22-27 or June 23-27 (exact date range tent.), Colorado Springs, Colorado | Youth, Junior & U25 National Championships
  • Sept. 9-12, Fort Worth, Texas |Virus Weightlifting Series 2
  • December 2-5, San Juan, Puerto Rico | Virus Weightlifting Finals & UMWF World Championships

USAWxPA

USA Weightlifting and Powerlifting America are excited to share that the two organizations are teaming up once again in 2027. USAW’s Masters National Championships & University National Championships will run alongside Powerlifting America’s Collegiate National Championships and High School National Championships in Richmond, Virginia. There will be an opportunity for university athletes to compete in a weightlifting & powerlifting combined event. The final format of this event will be announced in the coming weeks.

UMWF World Championships

Details around the UMWF World Championships (registration dates, qualifying totals, etc.) will come directly from the UMWF in the coming weeks. USA Weightlifting does not have any additional details for this event at this time and does not manage or plan the UMWF’s events. 


Puerto Rico will host USA Weightlifting and the UMWF at the Puerto Rico Convention Center Dr. Pedro Rosselló following an official partnership between the Puerto Rico Weightlifting Federation (FLPPR), Discover Puerto Rico, and USA Weightlifting (USAW). This agreement between USAW, Discover Puerto Rico, and the FLPPR marks a significant expansion of the competitive circuit, bringing together elite athletes, coaches, and delegations from various regions on one of the most important Olympic weightlifting platforms in the United States. This historic milestone helps position the Puerto Rican federation as a pioneer in advancing the sport of weightlifting on a global stage. USAW is very excited and grateful to be working alongside the FLPPR in pursuit of this historic opportunity.


Notes about traveling to Puerto Rico:

  • Puerto Rico is a U.S. territory, meaning U.S. citizens and permanent residents do not need a passport, but a REAL ID-compliant driver's license is required for airport security.
  • Currency & Language: The U.S. dollar (USD) is used, and while Spanish is dominant, English is widely spoken in tourist areas.

Verification of Final Entries: February 17, 2027 - 10:00-10:30 a.m. MT
