FØRDE, Norway - Olivia Reeves and Mattie Rogers, two Team USA Olympians, put on a show in the 77 kg A session of the 2025 Senior World Championships. Reeves went 5-for-6 and lifted 123/155/278 to secure three gold medals and set three senior world records. Rogers went 3-for-6 and lifted 107/140/247 to earn a bronze medal in the clean & jerk and place fourth in her ninth Senior World Championship. With Rogers’ medal, she becomes the first woman in United States history since Robin Goad to earn a medal at six different Senior World Championships.
For Reeves, this is the fifth international competition in a row that she has finished atop the podium, including the 2024 Paris Olympic Games and the 2024 Senior World Championships. With world records in the snatch, clean & jerk, and total, Reeves has now set 10 senior world records in her career - the other seven were at the 2025 Senior Pan American Championships in July. The last American lifter to set at least 10 senior world records was Bob Bednarski in 1969. Reeves has never left a senior world championship empty-handed since her debut in 2021, and she is now only the second American to medal in five straight Senior Worlds since 1959. She’s also just the third American to sweep gold at Senior Worlds since 1987, joining Olympians Sarah Robles (2017) and Kate Vibert (2019). Reeves’ 11 total senior world medals are the fourth-most for an American woman. From the 2023 Senior World Championships to now, Reeves has gone at least 5-for-6 at eight international competitions in a row – and she’s gone 6-for-6 in five of those.
For Rogers, she claimed her 14th senior world championship medal and sits as one of the most decorated U.S. female weightlifters in Senior World Championships history. She became the first American woman since Robin Goad to medal in six Senior World Championships. Goad earned medals across the 1987, ‘88, ‘91, 92, ‘93, ‘94, and ‘98 World Championships. This was Rogers’ ninth Senior Worlds appearance. Rogers hasn’t missed a senior world championship since her debut in 2015. She was the first American lifter to medal in five straight Senior Worlds (2017-22) since Tommy Kono won six straight from 1953-59.
Reeves was flawless in the snatch portion of the competition, hitting a 114 kg opener that would secure gold after Egypt’s Sara Ahmed missed her final attempt at 115 kg. Reeves’ eyes were set on the world record, however, as she quickly snatched 119 kg before loading 123 kg on the bar – one kilo over the world standard. Reeves managed to make that 123 kg look easy as she set the tone on how this competition would go. In the clean & jerk, Reeves avoided making it look too easy by dropping her opener at 146 kg. She came right back out and made up for the miss before Ahmed missed attempts at 147 kg and 150 kg. With a gold medal sweep wrapped up, Reeves made a nine kilogram jump to exceed the C&J world standard, and finished the day with an incredible lift at 155 kg to set her second and third world records of the session.
Rogers hit her opening snatch at 107 kg, but missed the next two attempts at 110 and 111 kg. The clean & jerk portion was competitive, as Rogers made her opener at 135 kg and then burned Colombian Mari Sanchez’s clock after she missed her second attempt at 136 kg. Perez made her third attempt, and then Rogers watched Brazilian Laura Amaro miss 137 kg and then make 139 kg. Now with pressure on her to improve upon 135 kg, Rogers took the platform at 140 kg. She made the clean look easy and got the jerk above her head, but couldn’t hold onto it. With one attempt left to make this the sixth senior world championship she has medaled in, Rogers came back and stuck the jerk at 140 kg.
