USAW Coaching Fundamentals

The USAW Coaching Fundamentals are a series of free, online courses designed to provide USAW coaches with essential tools to guide them as they progress as coaches. The courses focus on widely applicable topics like developing your coaching philosophy, effective communication, and understanding best practices of teaching and learning. Also covered are important weightlifting topics such as how to be an effective coach at a local competition.

The courses are between 20 and 50 minutes in length and are great for newer and veteran coaches of all sports. For athletes considering transitioning into a coaching role, these courses can help them consider what type of culture they want to create and what are the best ways of supporting young athletes. The courses also reinforce the value of an athlete-centered approach to coaching.

Several of the courses are made possible through a grant from the Susan Crown Exchange, leaders of the Million Coaches Challenge. All USAW members can access these free courses through their BARS membership account by navigating to their profile and the USAW Learning Academy.
