Jenny Schumacher to replace Nick Maietta as Chair of the USA Weightlifting Board of Directors

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The USA Weightlifting Board of Directors has elected Jenny Schumacher to serve as the organization’s Chair after Nick Maietta voluntarily stepped down from the position due to time constraints. Maietta will remain a member of the USAW Board of Directors through the end of his term on December 31, 2026. Schumacher assumed the role of Chair on August 14, 2023.

Schumacher has been a member of the USAW Board of Directors since 2017, including terms as Vice Chair from 2019 – 2020 and 2021 -2022. Schumacher is a National Coach, owner of Proven Strength Weightlifting, and is an IWF Category 1 Technical Official. She is a familiar face at national events and has mentored many individuals as they advanced from local to national and International Technical Officials.

“I am honored that my peers have entrusted me with the responsibility of leading the Board in setting our organizational priorities and serving USAW’s members,” said Schumacher. “With over a decade of dedicated service to USA Weightlifting, I’ve had the privilege of building strong relationships and gaining insight into the experiences and needs of athletes, coaches, staff, officials, and volunteers. I will continue to draw upon this wealth of knowledge as we work to create the most effective strategies to propel our sport forward. I aim to create an environment where Board responsibilities, actions, and decisions are fully understood by our members. I am fully devoted to this task and am excited about the opportunity to contribute to the success of USA Weightlifting.”

Maietta has been an Independent Director on the USAW Board since 2018 and was elected to the Chair position in January 2023. We are extremely grateful for Nick’s tireless service to the organization, our members, our athletes, and his fellow Board members; and look forward to his continued and critical contributions as an independent member of the Board.

Shameeka Quallo currently serves as Vice Chair of the Board.Twelve representatives sit on the USAW Board of Directors. Board members serve staggered terms, with elections taking place every two years.
