  • The youth men’s 98kg was replaced by a 94kg category
  • The youth +98kg was replaced by a +94kg category
  • The change will not affect women's categories.

USAW will also implement these new bodyweight categories on June 1, 2025, with the first affected event being National Championships Week in Colorado Springs. All events on or after June 1, 2025 will run with the new revised categories. Qualifying totals for the newly changed categories are available here.

Current Nationals Week registrants in the men’s and youth men’s 98kg category must choose a new bodyweight category prior to Verification of Final Entries (VFE) on Monday June 9, 2025 or they will be placed in the next higher category. Current Nationals Week registrants in the youth men’s +98kg category will be placed in the new +94kg category. USAW will honor the 98kg and youth men’s +98kg qualifying totals set for Nationals week competitions. Athletes who attain the 98kg or youth men’s +98kg qualifying total may register for Nationals Week, but those categories will not be contested in Colorado Springs.

Any current Nationals Week registrant in the men’s 98kg, youth men’s 98kg, or youth men’s +98kg category who prefers to withdraw may do so and receive a full refund by contacting USAW at usaw@usaweightlifting.org

Impacts to national team-focused athletes, selection procedures, and/or all things related to the National Team Program will be addressed by USAW’s Sport Performance Department. Updated A/B standards reflecting the adjusted bodyweight categories are available here. Please reach out to Senior Director of Sport Performance Mike Gattone at mike.gattone@usaweightlifting.org with specific questions about how this change impacts National Team Program athletes or opportunities.
