USA Weightlifting Womens Camp to be hosted in Columbus OH

USA Weightlifting is excited to host its third in person women's camp October 13-17 in Columbus, OH. Attendees can expect to learn from the best with coaching staff to include Olympian Cheryl Haworth, Olympian Jenny Arthur, and Ursula Garza Papandrea, former USAW president and IWF vice president. 

Participants will stay at a local hotel and will be transported to and from training at the Rogue Steelwood facility. 


The cost to attend the camp is $1695 for double occupancy, $1995 for single, and $750 for a training only option. The fee includes five nights lodging, all meals and transportation between the airport, hotel and training site, access to learning sessions with Tamra Wroblesky and A'Naja Newsome, and gift bag. 


Participants are required to be USA Weightlifting members to attend. International athletes are invited to attend but will be required to become USA Weightlifting members in order to register. Click HERE to sign up for the camp through BARS, USA Weightlifting's Membership Management system

Coach Profiles

Ursula Garza Papandrea, President of USA Weightlifting, Vice President of the International Weightlifting Federation and chair of the IWF Women's Commission. A world-level athlete herself, Papandrea was the first woman to achieve the ranking of Senior International Coach, USA Weightlifting's highest coaching certification.


Cheryl Haworth was born on April 19th, 1983 in Savannah, Georgia, USA. Haworth began her weightlifting career in 1996 at the age of 13 and started traveling internationally for competition at 14. She began breaking American Records at 15, Pan-American Records when she was 16 and still holds the snatch American and Pan American Record of 128kgs. Haworth is still credited with a Youth World Record, also in the snatch, of 125kgs made at the Sydney Olympic Games in 2000 when she was 17 years old. Until the Rio 2016 Olympics, Cheryl had remained the last American to win an Olympic weightlifting medal (Bronze, 2000 Sydney) and still is the last American to win a medal at the World Championships (Bronze, Doha, Qatar). Cheryl is a Goodwill Games Champion, Pan American Champion, two-time Junior Worlds Champion and competed in the Olympics three times. In 2004 Athens, Haworth earned 6th overall and came up with a fourth-place finish in 2008 Beijing. Cheryl was also the national champion from 1998-2008, eleven times consecutively. She has been a guest on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, Live! with Regis and Kathy Lee (breaking the American Record Clean and Jerk live on television) interviewed by Tom Brokaw, Bob Costas, Katie Couric, Matt Lauer and others. Cheryl has been photographed by Annie Leibowitz, Howard Schatz and Mary Ellen Mark, to name a few and has appeared in numerous books, magazines, newspapers and other publications. Cheryl is presently a weightlifting coach in Atlanta, Ga. running Haworth Weightlifting Barbell Club (@haworthweightlifting), teaching seminars, coaching clinics and traveling in an effort to promote the sport of Olympic weightlifting.

Speaker Bio

 

A’Naja Newsome is an educator, researcher, and weightlifting coach with more than a decade of experience in collegiate recreation, sport and exercise and health behavior change. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science and a Master’s degree in Sport and Fitness Management. A passionate, ambassador for holistic approaches to functional fitness, competitive Weightlifting, and wellness, A’Naja’s research interests include the psychosocial determinants of sport and exercise, including motivation and adherence, as well as the methodological and measurement aspects of exercise research and program evaluation. As a Ph.D. student her dissertation specifically focuses on the integration of exercise as a treatment for mental illness. Through Coaching Kilos, her mission is to promote pure movement for EVERY body.

A’Naja is an instructor for Johnson University in the Sport and Fitness Leadership program. She currently lives in the Greater Orlando area where she is balancing the demands of being a doctoral student while coaching, training, and competing in the sport of Weightlifting with Team Oly Concepts. She is a nationally recognized presenter and has represented a number of leading organizations as a Master Trainer, including the American College of Sports Medicine and Technogym USA. She has served as a content expert and guest speaker contributing to evidence-informed best practices in research and assessment.

She is known for her high energy and ability to coach to the very best in others. When she is not researching, lifting, or coaching, A'Naja enjoys being a beach bum, listening to country music, watching football with her husband, and drinking ridiculous amounts of coffee.

Tamra Wroblesky, PT, DPT is a graduate of Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia, PA. As a Monmouth county native, Tamra first played high school tennis at Freehold Borough, and then became captain of The College of New Jersey's female tennis team, playing both singles and doubles. Tamra is an avid mountaineer, summiting Mount Kilimanjaro, Pico de Orizaba, and Mount Rainier. She ran the Ocean Drive Marathon, and frequents the gym for weightlifting. As a former collegiate athlete with an active lifestyle, Dr. Wroblesky has special interests in treating the female athlete, with an emphasis on preventative protocols to limit injury. She is a USAW certified Sport Performance Coach and works closely with several weightlifters, including Katie Montague who took home 6 gold medals when Tamra accompanied her to University Nationals in spring 2017. She also works closely with Crossfit boxes and USA Weightlifting to give her "Pelvic Health for Performance" lecture. She is an active member of the American Physical Therapy Association, who awarded her the 2017 Emerging Leader award, as well as the Section of Women’s Health. She is also the 2016 recipient of the Girls Scouts of the Jersey Shore "Phenomenal Woman under 40." Dr. Wroblesky became interested in pelvic health physical therapy after her own medical obstacles dealing with severe pelvic and hip pain over six years. She has had several surgeries, including two hip labral tear repairs, allowing her to be mindful of the patient experience. Tamra is able to offer compassion and and a unique perspective to her patients. Prior to moving her pelvic health advocacy to the treatment room, she shared her experiences recovering from pelvic pain on her award-winning health blog “Sky-Circles.” She is a contributor to Pelvic Pain Explained, available for purchase on Amazon. When she’s not treating patients, Tamra is probably hiking up a mountain, reading a good book, or drinking specialty coffee.
