Open Weightlifting will be part of the overall 1,200-member delegation at the 2022 Maccabiah, comprised of 10,000 athletes, from 80 countries, participating in 43 sports. The United States team is being led by Ari Sherwin, Maccabiah Weightlifting alum, and national board member.
“The Maccabiah Games are extremely important to me because they build Jewish pride,” Sherwin says. “The Games provide Jewish athletes from the USA the chance to represent their country in an international sporting competition while bonding with their fellow Jewish athletes from the USA and around the world. As an alum of the Games, I am thrilled to be helping out and bringing weightlifting back to the Maccabiah”
Since 1932, over 62,000 athletes have participated in the Maccabiah Games, in a celebration of Jewish Strength and Solidarity. Team USA’s success is not only measured by the medals won, but by the impact that the Maccabiah experience had on their lives as well as the friendships they formed.
Maccabi USA builds Jewish pride through sports, generating the emotional intensity, high ideals, and powerful camaraderie of competition. We connect athletes, volunteers, and supporters with the global Jewish community.
