USA Weightlifting regrets to report the passing of Roger Sadecki. The longtime technical official died on March 9, 2022, at age 79.
A stalwart in the sport, Sadecki was known fondly as ‘The Godfather of Minnesota Weightlifting.’ He spearheaded the growth of Olympic weightlifting in Minnesota for several decades, and was a big proponent of that of masters weightlifting nationwide.
As an athlete, Sadecki competed at three Olympic trials and went on to become an Olympic team coach and revered technical official.
The 2002 USA Weightlifting Hall of Fame inductee continued serving the sport as a T.O. through the 2021 USA Weightlifting Nationals Week.
Sadecki’s funeral will be held at 10 a.m. CT on Tuesday, March 15, 2022, at St. Rose of Lima in Roseville, Minnesota, with visitation one hour prior.
