Ella Nicholson (76kg, unattached) broke through Thursday for Team USA, winning the team's first medals of competition. She did it in record-breaking style. Nicholson went a perfect 6-for 6, ultimately setting six Youth American and four Youth Pan American Records and claiming the Youth World Champion title.

Her opening snatch of 95kg broke a record held by Athena Schrijver set back in 2018. Nicholson broke her new record with a good 98kg snatch, and set a new youth Pan Am record in the lift. She then set another new youth American and Pan American record in snatch with a successful 101kg lift. Nicholson took gold in the snatch.

In the clean & jerk, after making a 114kg opener, Nicholson set a new youth American Record with a good 117kg lift. She then broke Schrijver's 2018 American record in the lift with a good 117kg lift. On her final attempt at 121kg, Nicholson broke the record again with a good 121kg lift. It also set a Youth Pan Am record. Her 121kg lift gave her silver in the clean & jerk.

Nicholson's 222kg total gave her new Youth American and Youth Pan American records and the Youth World Champion title. Congratulations, Ella!

Team USA Weightlifting Announces Participation in the 2023 IWF World Youth Championships

Colorado Springs, CO - Team USA Weightlifting is proud to announce its participation in the 2023 IWF World Youth Championships. The competition is occurring in Durres, Albania, from March 25 to April 1, 2023—a total of 57 counties comprising 133 women and 135 men, totaling 268 athletes.

The 2023 IWF World Youth Championships features athletes from around the world, ages 17 and younger, vying to be the strongest Youth weightlifters.

USA Weightlifting is sending talented young athletes to compete in the event. The athletes representing USA Weightlifting in the 2023 IWF World Youth Championships are:
