PALMIRA, Colombia - The 2024 Pan-American Junior Championships wrapped up competition on Monday, and Team USA brought back 39 medals, the second most that the United States has ever won at the junior championships. Nine of this year's medals were earned via podium sweeps by Miranda Ulrey (59 kg), Caden Cahoy, (73 kg), and Ella Nicholson (76 kg). Gabe Chhum (61 kg), Katie Estep (64 kg), and Tim Davis (96kg) all notably earned silver medals in the snatch and gold medals in both the clean & jerk and total. The 20 lifters who made up the team combined for 19 gold medals, eight silver, and 12 bronze. They set 24 personal records and three new junior American records, and Ulrey added her name to the Pan American record books, as her 97 kg snatch set a new regional record. Team USA’s 19 gold medals tied with the host, Colombia, for the most in the championships.

Ulrey has added 17 kgs to her total since a fourth-place finish at the 2023 IWF Junior World Championships. Her 97 kg snatch and 211 kg total are both new junior 59 kg American records, while her 114 kg C&J was a personal best and tied the national record. Nicholson has recently started to dominate the junior category after earning gold at the 2023 IWF Youth World Championships and silver at the 2023 Junior World Championships. She went 110/125/235 at 76 kg, setting a new snatch junior national record in the process. Cahoy dominated the 73 kg competition en route to his trio of gold medals. He went 143/182/325, winning the weight class by seven kg in the snatch, 15 kg in the C&J, and 22 kg in the total. Chhum earned gold by nine kilograms in the C&J because of a strong first attempt, but came second in the snatch by 1 kg after he was unable to lift his 126 kg final attempt. His 273 kg total comfortably put him ahead of the pack by nine kilos. Estep hit a trio of personal records with her 98/122/220 day. She came in second in the snatch by 1 kg, but won the C&J by 2 kg and the total by 1 kg.
