GAINESVILLE, Florida – The Gators Weightlifting Club hosted the first-ever South East Regional University Weightlifting Championships October 25-26 in Gainesville, Florida, and walked away with both the men's and women's team titles. The event brought together top university lifters from across the Southeastern United States, including athletes from UF, Florida State, South Florida, Central Florida, MSU, Webber International University, and Louisiana State University-Shreveport, marking a major milestone for collegiate weightlifting in the region. The Gators Weightlifting Club hosted over a hundred athletes and spectators for the two-day event, setting a new benchmark for university-level weightlifting in the region.

"This was a historic weekend for collegiate weightlifting in the South East," said Coach Michael Espinosa, event director and head coach of Gator Weightlifting. “For the first time ever we were able to compete directly against local colleges in the South East. It was a local meet, but it had a national feel.”
