COLORADO SPRINGS – USA Weightlifting has hired Jasha Faye as its newest National Team Coach. Faye, a three-year weightlifting residential athlete and 1993 Junior international champion, brings over 30 years of weightlifting experience to the position. The hiring rounds out a staff that also features Jackie Black, Sean Rigsby, and weightlifting legend Pyrros Dimas as national team coaches.

“We are thrilled to have Jasha join our National Team staff,” Mike Gattone, Senior Director of Sport Performance, said. “This was a highly competitive hiring opportunity with a pool of over 100 applicants, and Jasha rose to the top. He has spent over 30 years in our sport and has thrived at every level. He is a well-respected and accomplished coach who is known not just across the U.S., but also the Pan American region and the world. Jasha knows our sport  forward and back, and I have no doubt that he’ll be a great addition to our team.”

Faye’s roots in weightlifting run long and deep. As an athlete, he earned 1992 and 1993 Junior National crowns, was a 1993-34 University champion, and 1993 Junior World champion. Faye featured on the 1991-93 Junior World teams, and was a resident athlete at the United States Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs from 1992-95. Faye also competed in the 1996 Olympic Trials.

Following his days as a competitor, Faye rose as a technical official and has had numerous international technical official assignments. He sat on the USA Weightlifting Board of Directors from 2011-22, and in 2024 he was the U.S. team leader for the Senior World Championships. Faye has owned and operated Marin Heavy Athletics in Novato, Calif., since 2015 and is also the CEO of the Bay Area Strength Alliance—a non-profit that offers educational inroads through Olympic weightlifting and is dedicated to exposing underprivileged youth to a positive environment.

“I am deeply humbled and incredibly excited with the opportunity to serve our membership and help Team USA’s athletes continue to achieve excellence,” Faye said. “I am eager to get to work alongside the dedicated staff at USA Weightlifting and to collaborate with the incredible athletes and coaches who make this community so special.”
