IWF, IOC Publish Olympic Qualifying Procedures

COLORADO SPRINGS—The International Olympic Committee (IOC) published the qualifying procedures for the sports that’ll be contested at the Olympic Games 2028 Los Angeles over the weekend, including weightlifting. The first qualifying event of the quad is the 2026 Senior World Championships, and qualifying closes with the 2028 Senior World Championships. One hundred and twenty (120) total quota places are reserved for weightlifting, with six (three men, three women) guaranteed for the host country. Athletes must record five totals across two qualifying periods to represent their country at the Olympic Games.

As previously released, the Olympic bodyweight categories are:

MEN: 65kg, 75kg, 85kg, 95kg, 110kg, +110kg

WOMEN: 53kg, 61kg, 69kg, 77kg, 86kg, +86kg


USA Weightlifting will develop and publicly announce its Olympic selection procedures and any related updates to the National Team Program Policy in the coming weeks.
