McDonald’s Silver at 73kg Highlights End of Youth World Championships for U.S.
LIMA, Peru - Team USA concluded competition at the IWF World Youth Championships Saturday. The final two days of competition were highlighted by Ryan McDonald (17, Schuylkill Haven, Penn.) earning silver medals in the clean and jerk and total at 73 kg, bringing the United States’ total medal count to three with the addition of Jade Morales’ bronze at 55 kg from Thursday. This week’s three medals tie the medal count from the 2023 edition of the competition for the U.S. McDonald lifted 125kg in the snatch and 159 in the clean and jerk for a 284 kg total and a trio of personal records. He was one kilo away from tying India’s Bedabrat Bharali in the clean and jerk, and 12 kilos under Bharali in the total.

Eleven total athletes represented the United States in Lima, Peru this week. In addition to McDonald and Morales, 59 kg lifter Emma Heck finished top-6 in the total, recording a 74 kg snatch and 98 kg C&J for a 172 kg total. The team collectively set 20 personal records.
